The Leica CL was built by Minolta, to Leica specifications. Tangible results of this cooperation were the Leica CL/Minolta CL, an affordable rangefinder camera to supplement the Leica M range. Leitz desperately needed expertise in camera body electronics, and Minolta felt that they could learn a trick or two from Leitz' optics expertise. In 1972, Minolta drew up a formal cooperation with Leitz. An American astronaut took a Minolta Hi-Matic rangefinder 35mm camera aboard the spaceship Friendship 7 in 1962, and in 1968, Apollo 8 orbited the moon with a Minolta Space Meter aboard.įrom the late '50's to the mid-'80's, Minolta was arguably the most innovative camera manufacturer - the first Japanese manufacturer to introduce a bayonet lens mount rather than a screw mount, the first manufacturer to introduce TTL metering with full aperture, and the first manufacturer to introduce multi-mode metering. In 1950, Minolta developed a planetarium projector, the first-ever made in Japan, beginning the company's connection to astronomical optics. (Chiyoda Optics and Fine Engineering, Ltd.) and built the first Japanese-made twin-lens reflex camera, the Minoltaflex based on the German Rolleiflex. By 1937, the company reorganized as Chiyoda Kogaku Seiko, K.K. *We also have one of the largest selections of film cameras on the east coast for sale.A Minolta TLRRelying heavily on imported German technology, Nichi-Doku turned out their first product, a bellows camera called the Nifcalette, in March 1929. *We develop color, B&W, & slide film inhouse *We sell new old stock parts to save & preserve analog equipment for future generations

*A10K SQ FT building dedicated to film photography Bowers Photo, which has an amazing history in the analog world, and as it's been my lifelong passion to have my own camera shop it is my pleasure to keep their history alive. Fast forward 15 years as a one-man army making tons of friends along the way, I've created recognition worldwide as having the ability to find the impossible on short notice while supplying other small businesses with necessary analog gear to keep their shelves stocked. I found the need to accumulate analog equipment as much as possible when the world was turning digital. In the early 2000's I was on a mission to save film cameras & lenses while maintaining a professional photography career and a full-time job.
